Mission Statement

The Christopher Johnson McCandless Memorial Foundation, Inc

The Christopher Johnson McCandless Memorial Foundation, Inc. (“Foundation”) was created to make donations of the Foundation’s funds to various charitable organizations and individuals with needs in the memory of Christopher Johnson McCandless. Our abbreviated name for the fund is “Chris’s Purpose”. The primary focus of our charitable giving is children in need, world wide. This central cause served as the core of the precedent Memorial Fund (1994-2005) and continues unabated as “the Foundation”. In select special instances, a needy adult (usually a senior citizen), or a special interest will be the object of the funds charitable giving.

The avenue for fund allocation is most often a Christian Organization with verifiable performance aligned with our mission statement and goals. In all instances, we research the recipient organization receiving the Foundation’s Gift’s to the fullest extent reviewing tax documents (EIN, Determination Letter, 990 PF yearly accounting, etc.), interviewing and making direct contact with individuals administering and/or delivering the charitable service and most importantly on-site interactions with those directly benefiting from the Foundation so that we can attest to, assure and bear witness to the efficacy of our efforts. After more than a decade of giving to the benefit of needy children, our goals and directions have not changed. The learning process has enabled us to better select and monitor the results of this effort.
